We then had a nice picnic. The dream that Sherri and I shared for a couple of years now was to get our husbands on our own horses on a nice trailride with us and to share in the beauty of the forest.
Some of the photos are a bit blurry. We had more fun and didn't worry too much about perfection with the cameras.
Hope you enjoy the slideshow.
David rode Joe, Deborah rode Ayla, Sherri rode Sash, and Billy rode Dahlia.
A dream come true.

Not many creatures were stirring...

Our indoor pets - Christmas 2006. Text needed a doghouse because he sits by the back door rain or shine, so David picked it out, brought it home, and tried it out. No "in the doghouse" jokes please.
He also spent a long time working on the barn getting it ready to take care of the horses for the winter.

Our 30th Anniversary

On October 9th, 1976, David and I were wed at Calloway Gardens chapel.
We bought a baldcypress to plant in our yard on our 30th anniverary. On this day David used the mist setting at first and she enjoyed it. For a long time. So long that I ran in to get the video camera. By that time he was using a shower setting and she still did not leave. I guess contributing factors might also have been the 100 degree heat and a drought.

ATU BandCamp

I am preparing some fun listening lessons for the ATU BandCamp senior high camp this week.
I am using GarageBand to put cues for listening and making a new podcast for the week -
http://listen2music.podomatic.com
Music so far - "Rondo Alla Turca" by Mozart,
"Stargate Theme" by Arnold, & I am working on "Night on Bald Mountain" by Mussorgsky.

Lost, Ozarks style

So, David went hiking with me. I wanted to see if I could find a short-cut from the trailhead where we park the horse trailers to Big Piney Creek, a beautiful stream that has critters and bluffs on one side. He and Pawley and I set out down the new trail. Optimism abounded. Pawley is a great trail dog. She does not go crashing through the brush or chasing everything she sees or hears.
Time passed. No water, no vistas. We crossed a dry creek bed and David said that it had to end up in the creek, so why not follow it. We did. In sight of water we had to go under one strand of barbed-wire. No biggie. We surprised a beautiful doe drinking at the water's edge. We continued to the left on a little road that eventually, we knew, would go to the creek. As we were walking we heard an engine start. A four-wheeler came toward us. Long story short, we were way-the-heck off away from the beach I was aiming for, but very near a beautiful swimming hole and, by the way, this is private land but you don't look like party-trashing-carrousing folk so it's OK. Kinda hurt, but it is true. Turns out I taught his daughter last semester and he was a heck-of-a nice guy.
David, Pawley, and I proceeded to the beach you see in the photo and all three of us swam.
On our soggy hike back to the truck, up hill if you recall, we ate blackberries. 45 minute up hill.
All in all, a nice adventure.

The Grand Ennui

David & I returned Monday from our trip to Auburn to celebrate the career and retirement of Dr Thomas R. Smith who for 34 years conducted choral groups and was a guiding light to hundreds of students. You can see a video of him conducting the Alma mater at http://dover.podomatic.com <a href="http://dover.podomatic.com"/ target="_new">

So, after an exciting emotional weekend I look forward to training my cucumber vines to go up my new trellis. Monkee Michael Nesmith wrote a song "The Grand Ennui" that really expresses my summer condition. If I am not working on a project I feel useless, so I then read followed by a quick segue to a nap.
